Christodora’s award-winning Community of Rising Environmentalists (CoRE) Saturday Program meets on Saturdays during the spring and fall to conduct science research projects, steward local parks, build community, and nurture future environmental leaders.

CoRE Goals

  • Engage in the conservation of New York City’s natural environment through stewardship activities 

  • Develop students familiarity with New York City’s local green and eco-friendly infrastructure initiatives and projects

  • Introduce New York City youth to environmental career pathways

  • Foster the next generation of environmental leaders through community-based science and community service

  • The CoRE Saturday Program is FREE for all to attend!

  • At the end of each season of participation, students that meet attendance requirements can earn a stipend. Below are the stipend levels:

    High school students:

    • 100% attendance = $125 + prize

    • 75% attendance = $100

    • 50% attendance = $50

    Middle school students:

    • 100% attendance = $75 gift card + prize

    • 75% attendance = $50

    • 50% attendance = $25

  • Each spring season, the CoRE Saturday program embarks on a FREE weekend trip to our very own Manice Education Center. Students participate in various ecology lessons, low ropes challenge courses, and local hikes.

  • Transit! All parks and green spaces that we visit are easily accessible by public transit.

  • We provide all gear and equipment for events and activities. All you need to bring is yourself, weather appropriate clothing, and water + snacks!

  • Each weekend the CoRE program visits a different site around the Bronx or upper Manhattan area.
